The Santiago Bernabéu is a powderkeg, and Florentino Pérez looks ready to light the match. With the dressing room reportedly in “total disarray” and the Álvaro Arbeloa experiment failing to steady the ship, Real Madrid have officially made direct contact with José Mourinho to spearhead a sensational return to the Spanish capital.

A Club in Crisis

The news of “Operation Mourinho” comes at the lowest point of Madrid’s season. Internal friction has boiled over, with shocking reports of training ground altercations between Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, plus public scrutiny surrounding Kylian Mbappé’s recent trip to Italy while on the injury list.

The hierarchy believes the current squad has lost its discipline, and there is a growing consensus that only an “authority figure” like Mourinho can restore order. While some fans remember the fractured ending to his first stint (2010–2013), many others see him as the only man capable of delivering the “reality check” this star-studded team desperately needs.

The Non-Negotiable Demands

Mourinho, currently managing Benfica, isn’t planning to walk back into the Bernabéu just to collect a paycheck. Reports suggest the “Special One” held a secret hour-long video conference with Pérez this week, where he laid out a list of “iron-clad” conditions:

Total Sporting Control: No interference from the board on tactical or personnel decisions.

Transfer Authority: A major say in who stays and who goes, with eyes already on Benfica’s Amar Dedić to bolster the defense.

Medical Overhaul: Full power to restructure the club’s medical and fitness departments after a season plagued by injuries.

The €3 Million Escape

While Benfica president Rui Costa has publicly insisted Mourinho will stay in Lisbon for the 2026/27 season, the manager himself has been more cryptic. “I can’t guarantee anything,” Mourinho told reporters Friday. “It doesn’t just depend on me.”

Crucially, Mourinho’s contract reportedly contains a €3 million release clause—a pittance for a club of Madrid’s stature. If results don’t improve immediately, starting with Sunday’s massive clash against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, we could see the most dramatic managerial comeback in football history finalized by next week.
