The Race for the Capocannoniere: Lautaro Leads as Inter Clinch the Title

0

With only a few weeks left in the 2025/26 Serie A season, the race for the Capocannoniere is reaching its boiling point. While Inter Milan has already officially secured their 21st Scudetto, their captain is still fighting to ensure he walks away with the golden boot.

The Argentine Wall: Lautaro Martínez

Lautaro Martínez remains the man to beat. As of May 10, 2026, “El Toro” sits comfortably at the top with 17 goals. His leadership has been the driving force behind Inter’s dominant campaign, combining clinical finishing with a work rate that has left defenders across Italy gasping for air.

While he hasn’t quite reached the astronomical numbers of previous seasons, his goals have been “heavy,” often serving as the decisive blow in tight matches.

The Chasing Pack

It isn’t just a one-man show, however. A few surprise names have emerged to challenge the established hierarchy:

• **Marcus Thuram (Inter Milan – 13 Goals): Lautaro’s partner in crime has been equally lethal. Thuram’s physical presence and unselfish play have made Inter’s attack the most feared in the league.

Nico Paz (Como – 12 Goals): The young Real Madrid loanee has been the revelation of the season. Leading newly-promoted Como into a battle for European spots, Paz has shown a maturity well beyond his years.

Anastasios Douvikas (Como – 12 Goals): Right there with Paz, Douvikas has turned the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia into a hunting ground, proving that Como’s recruitment was a masterstroke.

• **Donyell Malen (AS Roma – 11 Goals): Since his arrival, Malen has breathed new life into the Giallorossi attack, maintaining one of the best goals-per-minute ratios in the league.
