Wolverhampton Wanderers have pulled off an absolute masterstroke in the transfer market, securing a verbal agreement to sign former Newcastle United captain Kieran Trippier on a free transfer.

The 35-year-old veteran full-back parted ways with St. James’ Park at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract. Despite heavy interest from across Europe and the Premier League, Trippier has chosen Molineux as his next destination, dropping down to spearhead Rob Edwards’ promotion charge.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, it is a “Here We Go” situation, with the deal completely agreed upon between all parties.

The Details of the Contract

Trippier has agreed to a two-year contract with Wolves, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028. The deal also includes an optional third year, which can be triggered based on performance-related milestones and appearances.

The 54-cap former England international is currently away on holiday but is scheduled to fly into the West Midlands next week to undergo his medical and officially sign the paperwork.

Wolves had to fight off serious competition from several top-flight clubs to secure his signature. However, Trippier was reportedly sold on the vision presented by Rob Edwards, choosing to stay in England rather than returning abroad where he previously won La Liga with Atletico Madrid.

A Massive Coup for the Championship Promotion Bid

This signing represents a massive statement of intent for Wolves following their recent relegation. Dropping into the Championship is always a brutal wake-up call, but landing a player of Trippier’s immense pedigree changes the entire dynamic of the squad.

The veteran right-back brings a wealth of elite experience, including a Champions League final appearance and a World Cup semi-final goal. Over his four years at Newcastle, he was the literal blueprint for their transformation, making 160 senior appearances and laying down the defensive standards that guided them into Europe.

While some critics might point to his age, Trippier’s world-class delivery from set-pieces and exceptional leadership inside the dressing room make him an invaluable asset. Alongside rumors of Andre staying and major squad rebuilding, the arrival of Trippier instantly establishes Wolves as the heavy favorites to dominate the division and secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
