Barcelona fans have had to exercise a little patience this summer, but the long-awaited arrival of Karim Adeyemi is finally here. After a few administrative holdups, the German speedster is officially putting the finishing touches on his move from Borussia Dortmund to the Catalan giants.
The 24-year-old forward completed his medical examinations in Barcelona last week, with Barça agreeing to a deal worth €22 million upfront, plus an additional €7 million in performance-related add-ons. Adeyemi is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the club through June 2031.
The official presentation was briefly pushed back while club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco returned from the World Cup final in New York. However, with all paperwork now sorted between both clubs, Adeyemi is set to be presented to the press and supporters before linking up immediately with Hansi Flick’s squad for pre-season.
Interestingly, Adeyemi originally hoped to wear his preferred #27 shirt—a number special to his early career—but La Liga regulations mandate that registered first-team players must wear numbers between 1 and 25.
Adding serious pace and versatility to Barcelona’s frontline alongside new arrival Anthony Gordon, Adeyemi will travel with the team to England for their upcoming pre-season training camp. Flick will be eager to get his new German dynamic forward up to speed ahead of the new campaign.
