Tusker FC endured a frustrating start to their 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign after falling 2-0 to Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Despite a determined effort from the Brewers, Al Hilal proved far too clinical in front of goal. The Sudanese side grabbed the lead in the 38th minute when Kamardini Mamudu pounced on a loose rebound following a save from Tusker goalkeeper Brandon Obiero, sending a deflected shot into the net.
Tusker pushed hard for a comeback in the second half, with skipper Abud Omar threatening from multiple dangerous set-pieces. However, Al Hilal goalkeeper Soufiane Farid produced several key saves to deny the Kenyan side.
As Tusker committed numbers forward in search of an equalizer, Al Hilal caught them on the break in stoppage time. Substitute Salim Adams finished off a swift counter-attack to double the lead and seal all three points for Al Hilal.
The defeat leaves Tusker with plenty of work to do as they prepare to face Rwandan side Rayon Sports in a must-win second group fixture.
