EA SPORTS has officially pulled back the curtain on FC 27, dropping huge reveals around gameplay, Career Mode, and brand-new game modes. Scheduled for a global release on September 25, 2026 (with up to seven days of Early Access starting September 18), this entry is shaping up to deliver some of the biggest structural changes the franchise has seen in years.

Whether you’re a tactical mastermind in Career Mode, a competitive FUT player, or just looking to kick back with friends, here is the breakdown of the most significant changes coming to FC 27.

1. Defensive Control Returned to the Players

One of the loudest community demands over recent seasons has been a reduction in automated AI defending—and EA has addressed it head-on.

No More Auto-Tackles: Automatic AI-controlled tackles have been removed. AI defenders will now hold shape and mark, but you must manually switch to the player to execute a tackle or press effectively.

Buffed Manual Defending: To reward active play, manually controlled defenders benefit from increased jockey speed and an expanded range for standing tackles compared to last year.

Reduced AI Interceptions: The defensive reach for AI-controlled interceptions has been trimmed down, giving a clear edge to players who manually anticipate passing lanes.

2. Next-Gen Offense: Curved Runs & Off-Balance Dribbling

Attacking gets a major facelift with smarter spatial awareness and brand-new motion mechanics.

Triggered Curved Runs: Players can now trigger custom curved runs into space. Instead of running in straight lines, attackers bend their paths around defensive lines to stay onside while exploiting open pockets.

Attacking Spatial Awareness: Teammate AI naturally recognizes open space much better, executing overlapping and underlapping runs automatically without requiring manual triggers every time.

Off-Balance Dribbling: Agile ball-carriers won’t immediately lose control or stumble to a halt upon light physical contact. They can maintain forward momentum and dribble through shoulder-barges while recovering their balance dynamically.

Reinvented Set Pieces: Short-corner routines and set-piece positioning have been redesigned with manual run controls, alongside a new two-player heading interaction for aerial duels.

3. “The Grounds” – A Brand-New Open World Hub

The headlining addition to FC 27 is The Grounds, an open-world social environment that expands the ecosystem beyond basic menu navigation.

Social & Casual Play: Acts as a street and park football playground featuring casual kickabouts, 1v1 arenas, and social spaces.

Clubs Integration: Deeply tied to the Pro Clubs progression system, allowing players to hang out, customize their avatars, and jump into matches together seamless.

Star Mentors: Football icons and stars—including Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, Paulo Dybala, and returning story favorite Alex Hunter—appear within the hub as progression mentors.

(Note: Available exclusively on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2.)

4. Career Mode Overhaul: Moneyball Transfers & Dynamic OVR

Career Mode is receiving some of its deepest operational updates in a decade, adopting a more realistic, data-driven approach.

TransferRoom Integration & Bidding Wars: Built in partnership with real-world scouting system TransferRoom. Rival clubs will actively enter bidding wars for your top targets, and deals now feature buy-back options, sell-on percentages, and performance-based clauses.

Dynamic OVR: Player overall ratings are no longer fixed to rigid age curves. Form, morale, and match fitness directly sway ratings upward or downward across the entire league—meaning a player on a massive goalscoring streak temporarily outplays their base stats.

5. Ultimate Team Refinements: FUT Gallery & Hall of FUT

Ultimate Team is shifting its collection dynamic with brand-new hub mechanics:

FUT Gallery: A permanent collection book where players assemble and display card sets based on clubs, nations, and past promos to level up their gallery rank for extra rewards.

Hall of FUT: A new item tier celebrating fan-favorite cult heroes. The first confirmed inductees include Adebayo Akinfenwa, Marouane Fellaini, Loïc Rémy, Eljero Elia, and Giovani dos Santos.
