The German Bundesliga continues its Matchday 28 action this Sunday, April 5th, with two intriguing fixtures that could shift the landscape at both ends of the table. While the heavyweights played on Saturday, today is all about survival and consistency as the season enters its final stretch.

1. FC Union Berlin vs. FC St. Pauli (4:30 PM EAT)

A massive encounter at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Union Berlin find themselves in a bit of a mid-table limbo but remain a formidable force at home. Their opponents, St. Pauli, are desperate for points to pull themselves away from the relegation playoff spot.

The Vibe: Expect a high-intensity, physical battle. Union Berlin’s defense has been solid, but they’ve struggled to find the back of the net consistently. St. Pauli, meanwhile, will look to disrupt and hit on the counter.

Key Stat: St. Pauli has one of the league’s lowest goal tallies away from home, while Union has kept clean sheets in over 20% of their games this season.

Prediction: Union Berlin 1-0 St. Pauli. The “Iron Ones” usually find a way to grind out results in Berlin, and St. Pauli’s lack of clinical finishing might cost them here.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. 1. FC Köln (6:30 PM EAT)

The late kickoff sees Eintracht Frankfurt host FC Köln at the Deutsche Bank Park. Frankfurt is looking to solidify their European credentials, while Köln is fighting tooth and nail to climb out of the bottom three.

The Vibe: Frankfurt are the heavy favorites here. With the home crowd behind them and a squad that thrives on transition play, they’ll look to overwhelm the “Billy Goats” early on. Köln, however, are known for their resilience and will likely set up a low block to frustrate the hosts.

Key Stat: Eintracht Frankfurt have a significantly higher expected goals (xG) ranking compared to Köln this season, though both teams have struggled defensively at times.

Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 FC Köln. Frankfurt’s attacking depth should eventually break through, but don’t be surprised if Köln sneaks a goal on a set-piece.
