Let’s be real: as a Manchester United supporter, watching the Champions League quarter-finals from the sofa isn’t exactly the dream. But just because the Red Devils aren’t on the pitch tonight doesn’t mean we don’t have a massive stake in what happens. Tonight, the footballing gods have served up two absolute crackers: Liverpool vs PSG and Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona.

While the rest of the world is talking about “tactical nuances” and “European pedigree,” we’re looking at these games through a very specific lens. You know the one—the lens that hopes for maximum drama, a bit of humbled rivalry, and maybe, just maybe, a tactical masterclass from an old friend.

The Anfield Script: Why We’re All “Parisian” Tonight

First up, the nightmare scenario. Liverpool is down 2-0 against PSG. Normally, you’d never catch a United fan cheering for a team owned by a sovereign wealth fund, but when the alternative is a Liverpool “Anfield Miracle,” suddenly I’m humming Allez Paris in my kitchen.

There is nothing quite as exhausting as hearing about “European nights at Anfield” for three weeks straight. If PSG—led by the clinical Luis Enrique—can just keep their heads for 90 minutes and put this tie to bed early, it saves us all a lot of headache.

The United Fan Prediction: A sloppy, frustrating 1-1 draw. PSG celebrates at the Kop, and we all sleep soundly knowing the Scousers aren’t marching toward another final.

The Metropolitano Brawl: The Simeone Way

Then we have Atletico vs Barcelona. Now, this one is a bit more complicated. On one hand, you have Barca—a club we’ve had some legendary (and painful) battles with over the years. On the other, you have Diego Simeone’s Atletico.

As United fans, we have a weird, begrudging respect for Simeone. He’s the ultimate “dark arts” master. Seeing him frustrate a high-flying Barcelona side—especially after they’ve been acting like they’ve already won the treble—is pure cinema. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching a team try to play “beautiful football” only to get neutralized by a low block and a tactical foul at the halfway line.

Plus, watching Atletico move on keeps the “big” giants out of the spotlight. We’d much rather see Simeone’s gritty soldiers grinding out results than Barca lifting another trophy.

The Verdict: The Perfect Tuesday Night

If you’re asking me how I want this to go? It’s simple.

I want PSG to professionally dismantle Liverpool within the first twenty minutes—silencing the crowd before they can even finish the first chorus of their anthem. Then, I want Atletico to turn the Metropolitano into a swamp, dragging Barcelona into a 120-minute scrap that ends with a Simeone sprint down the touchline.

Is it petty? Absolutely. But until we’re back where we belong in the UCL knockout stages, finding joy in the downfall of rivals is basically a hobby.
