Southampton, England – 21 February 2026: Kenyan international Collins Sichenje finally made his first appearance for Charlton Athletic in the EFL Championship, starting in the 1–1 draw at St Mary’s Stadium against Southampton.

After joining Charlton on 2 February, the Harambee Stars defender had spent his first few matches on the bench and was an unused substitute in outings including a 0–0 draw with QPR and a 3–1 home defeat to Portsmouth.

Match Action and Performance

Sichenje was named in the starting XI by manager Nathan Jones as part of a three-man defence, partnering Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell.

Charlton conceded early in the second half when Ross Stewart gave Southampton the lead, but the visitors responded through Sonny Carey, who converted a well-worked move in the 67th minute to level the score. The game finished 1–1, a valuable point in Charlton’s battle against relegation.

Sichenje lasted around 89 minutes before being substituted late in the game, reportedly after picking up a knock.

Coach and Player Reactions

Charlton boss Nathan Jones praised Sichenje’s debut performance, describing it as “magnificent,” especially given his lack of recent game time prior to the match.

In interviews after the fixture, Sichenje spoke positively about the experience, saying it “feels amazing” to make his debut and help the team secure an important point.

Significance of the Debut

For Sichenje, the outing marked a significant milestone in his career — transitioning from his previous spell in Serbia with Vojvodina and making his mark in English football. His presence added defensive solidity to Charlton’s back line at a crucial stage of the season as the club fights to stay clear of the relegation zone.
