Bayern Munich have officially locked down one of their most dependable workhorses, announcing a new contract extension for Austrian international Konrad Laimer through to June 2029.
The 29-year-old utility player, who arrived at the Allianz Arena on a free transfer from RB Leipzig in 2023, had just one year remaining on his previous agreement. However, following a series of productive talks after the World Cup in North America—where Laimer played every single minute for Austria—both parties reached a swift agreement to extend his stay for another three seasons.
Why Laimer Has Become Indispensable Under Vincent Kompany
While Laimer initially built his reputation in Germany as an aggressive, high-pressing central midfielder, his role has evolved significantly under Bayern boss Vincent Kompany. The Austrian has seamlessly transformed into a high-energy right-back, supplying dynamic overlap runs, relentless defensive tackling, and tactical balance on the right flank.
His versatility and work ethic have made him a favorite in the dressing room and a focal point of Kompany’s high-intensity pressing scheme. With 136 competitive appearances, seven goals, and 19 assists already under his belt in Munich, Laimer has played an integral role in securing back-to-back Bundesliga titles, a DFB-Pokal, and a Supercup trophy.
Board member for sport Max Eberl praised the extension, calling Laimer “the absolute picture of reliability at the highest level,” while Laimer expressed his joy at staying in Bavaria, stating that “anything is possible with this squad.”
